Every single bean of the Leonardo di ser Piero Whole Bean Coffee is carefully grown, selected and handpicked in the lush hillsides of Marcala region in Honduras. No chemical inputs are used as the coffee beans are composted and used as fertilizer, along with vermiculture, and fewer insects are present at the altitude it’s grown, so no insecticides are necessary. Only coffee grown in this specific region can carry the Marcala name. The area’s mountainous terrain and tropical climate, where rainfall avarages more than 80 inches annually, provide excellent growing conditions, and the care & expertise of these farmers make the most of that environment, resulting in a smooth and well balanced coffee. Born Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci “at the third hour of the night” in Vinci, Italy on April 15, 1452, the Renaissance artist/inventor we know as Leonardo da Vinci was the illegitimate son of Messer Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci, a Florentine notary, and Caterina di Meo Lippi who was believed to be an orphaned peasant. He had no surname in the modern sense – da Vinci simply means “of Vinci” and can be translated as “Leonardo, (son) of (Mes)ser Piero from Vinci.” Long regarded as the archetypal Renaissance man, da Vinci’s celebrated works include the Vitruvian Man, The Last Supper, and the Mona Lisa. Leonardo da Vinci died at age 67 in Cloux, France.
